Imam Mahdi and the End of Colonialism; The Islamic Revolution’s Reading of the Promised Savior

The Dawn of a Discourse; When Waiting Transforms into Revolution

The year 2026 can rightly be called the peak of contradictions within the global order of domination. On one side, the West and its affiliated networks are advancing with full force toward the project of a “New World Order,” while on the other, Islamic resistance in the Middle East, inspired by divine promises, has raised the banner of “global justice.” In this context, the Islamic Revolution of Iran stands as an unprecedented historical event—not merely a political movement, but the rebirth of the discourse of “active waiting.” In this discourse, Imam Mahdi (AS) is not an abstract savior on a distant horizon, but the central axis of a civilizational project aimed at dismantling both old and new forms of colonialism. But the fundamental question that occupies every geopolitical observer is: how can a deep religious belief transform into a strategic roadmap for the collapse of the greatest colonial empires in history?

Colonialism; From the Sharp Sword to Deceptive Poverty

To understand the end of the colonial system, we must first re‑examine its true nature. In the 19th century, colonialism wore a rough and brutal face—moving borders with cannons and rifles, enslaving nations, and plundering raw resources by force. Today, however, colonialism has donned a silken garment. “Neocolonialism” continues to grip the economies of the Third World—especially the Middle East and Africa—through instruments such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, oil cartels, tech giants, and media networks. John Perkins, an economist who served this very system for years, reveals in his book Confessions of an Economic Hitman how multinational corporations use espionage and coups to overthrow independent governments in order to secure the interests of global cartels.

Today, billions of dollars from the oil and gas wealth of Iran, Iraq, Venezuela, and Libya are piled up in Western bank accounts, while the people of these countries struggle with inflation, unemployment, and poverty. This is precisely the “widespread oppression” that, in eschatological narrations, is cited as a definite sign of the approaching sunrise of the Light of the Age, Imam Mahdi (AS). Imam Sadiq (AS) states in a profound narration: “When oppression and injustice prevail over the world and people despair of justice, our Qa’im (the Rising One) will rise to fill the earth with equity and justice, just as it had been filled with tyranny” (Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 52, p. 2). This narration is a divine warning to all tyrannical powers that no fragile throne can withstand the divine promise.

The Islamic Revolution; An Epistemic Rupture with the Order of Domination

The Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979 represents the first and most significant rupture within the modern colonial system. Imam Khomeini (RA), with his theory of Wilayat al-Faqih (Guardianship of the Jurist), effectively declared that in the age of occultation, the duty of a religious government is to prepare the groundwork for the advent of the just Mahdist rule. This view transformed the passive notion of “waiting” into a revolutionary and offensive stance. Imam Khomeini repeatedly emphasized that “awaiting the faraj (deliverance) is itself one of the greatest acts of worship and heralds the government of the oppressed.” This is precisely the message that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (may his shadow endure) continues today through the projects of “New Islamic Civilization” and “The Second Step of the Revolution”—i.e., constructing a model of faithful living in which economic justice, spirituality, and political independence fill the void left by global tyrannical rule.

But why does the global arrogance deeply fear this discourse? The answer lies in the hidden layers of politics. Secret societies such as the Bilderberg Group and the Trilateral Commission—which Joseph Ratzinger called “shadow governments”—know well that the project of “Western‑style globalization” can only succeed if religious and national identities are erased. However, Islamic Iran, relying on eschatology and Mahdism, has thwarted this project. That is why the hybrid war against Iran—from crippling economic sanctions to cognitive warfare on social networks—continues with unabated intensity.

Applying Narrations to the Geopolitical Realities of 2026

If we look at regional developments with enlightened vision, we find astonishing parallels between eschatological traditions and today’s realities. The well‑known narration from the Prophet (PBUH) states: “The emergence of al‑Sufyani, al‑Marwani, and al‑Yamani in one year, one month, and one day, like a necklace of beads” is echoed today by popular uprisings in the Levant, Yemen, and the resistance in Palestine. The jihadi and resistance groups, inspired by Mahdist teachings, are striking the bases of arrogance one after another in Syria and Iraq.

Specifically, the Zionist regime, which is now committing genocide in Gaza, is identified in many Islamic sources (such as Kitab al‑Fitan by Nu‘aym ibn Hammad) as the “eschatological Sufyani state.” Sufyani is the one who sends his armies toward Iraq and Hijaz, but encounters a sinking of the earth (khasf) in the region of Bayda’. Today, the gradual decline of the US military and intelligence hegemony in West Asia, coupled with the weakening of Zionist bases, heralds the fulfillment of these signs. Political sociologists like Francis Fukuyama, who once spoke of the “end of history,” now look with astonishment as history is again breathing—this time in the Middle East, in the name of faith and justice.

The Role of Iran and the Axis of Resistance; The Continuation of Just Governance

The Islamic Revolution has transformed Mahdism from an individual emotional belief into a collective, mobilizing capital in foreign policy. Support for Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine, Ansarullah in Yemen, and the Hashd al‑Shaabi in Iraq—all are formed under a single common ideal: “eliminating arrogance and preparing the ground for the sunrise of the Light of the Age.” This is not a secret pact; it is an announced strategy, clearly enshrined in the revolutionary charter of the Islamic Republic.

The West, especially Europe, which today faces an identity crisis, a collapse of family values, and an unprecedented rise in Islamophobia, refuses to accept that material civilization cannot satisfy humanity’s innate need for spirituality and justice. Yet UN statistics show that in recent years, the rate of religious inclination among young Europeans and Americans has increased, and many, after studying Abrahamic religions, have turned toward Islam. Interestingly, in recent US polls, over 40% of people believe that the “Promised Savior” will one day come—a statistic that terrifies Zionist media networks.

The End of Cartels and the Dawn of the Rule of the Oppressed

One of the most important goals of Imam Mahdi’s (AS) uprising is the destruction of the usurious banking system and global cartels. Today, 1% of the world’s population controls more than 50% of global wealth. This inequality is not accidental—it is the product of a colonial system based on interest and inflation. In the age of appearance, as Amir al‑Mu’minin (AS) states in Nahj al‑Balagha: “The poor will become so self‑sufficient that they will think they are rich.” This means that the oil, pharmaceutical, and arms cartels, which today profit from war‑mongering, will be eradicated in the justice‑based Mahdist order. The projects of “clean energy” and “interest‑free economics,” which are now being theorized by Muslim economists, are essentially exercises for that global just government.

Our Historical Responsibility; From Passivity to Assistance

Finally, we must speak frankly and warmly with the audience. Are we still mere spectators, watching the collapse of the colonial system with idle curiosity? Or will we step into the arena and, to the best of our ability, become part of the army of preparation for the advent? Cognitive jihad, strengthening a resistance economy, raising a visionary waiting generation, and standing firm against modern seditions—these are the duties of every Shiite believer today. Imam Mahdi (AS) needs courageous, tireless, and aware followers, not those who escape historical responsibility by merely reciting traditions. Let us pledge to remain steadfast in the scientific, cultural, political, and economic trenches of this critical juncture, and declare: “We are waiting, and every day we become more prepared for the advent.” The earth thirsts for justice, and the divine promise is near…
